When creating a new product or piece of work, the starting point is usually “what will it hold?” However, this basket was made with the idea that a basket doesn’t necessarily have to hold anything at all—even a basket that cannot hold things can still have a purpose. As such, this is a basket that cannot be used to contain items. Of course, nothing can be stored inside it. However, you can place or hang things on top of it. Since the gaps are quite large, it's still technically possible to put things inside if you wish.

The “basket that can hold” is created by cutting off the top portion of the “basket that cannot hold.” This version can be used to store items. You can use it however you like, but many people use it as a final drying basket for dishes after they’ve been lightly wiped. (Please note: prolonged exposure to moisture may cause mold.)

The cut-off piece changes shape, allowing for various forms of play. It can be used as a toy, a wall decoration, or even as a trivet. Since it feels like a fragment cut from the “basket that cannot hold,” we named it “Ippen” (which means “fragment” or “one piece” in Japanese).
